Lesson Outline:
Parable
of the Sower
I divided them into 4 groups and had each group determine the facts and
application for each type of soil, then taught the following lesson.
Rooted and Grounded
People receive the word of God differently.
Parable of the sower

What comes from what is planted?
Hosea 10:12-14 Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the
fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is
time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers righteousness on you.
But you have planted wickedness, you have reaped evil, you have eaten
the fruit of deception. Because you have depended on your own strength
and on your many warriors, the roar of battle will rise against your
people,
Chopped Down Trees still can sprout again
Job 14:7-9 "At least there is hope for a tree: If
it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.
Its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump die in the soil,
yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant.
Isaiah 6:11-13 Then I said, "For how long, O Lord?" And he
answered: "Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until
the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged, until
the LORD has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken.
And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste.
But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so
the holy seed will be the stump in the land."
Isaiah 37: 31-32 Once more a remnant of the house of Judah
will take root below and bear fruit above. For out of Jerusalem will
come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal
of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
God's intention is to plant us
Mark 4:30-32 Again he said, "What shall we say the kingdom of
God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like
a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground.
Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants,
with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade."
Jeremiah 24:5-7 "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says:
'Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom
I sent away from this place to the land of the Babylonians. My eyes
will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this
land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them
and not uproot them. I will give them a heart to know me, that I am
the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they
will return to me with all their heart.
What makes plants grow healthy and strong?
Water and sunlight = word of God, which makes plants grow strong
Water--
Isaiah 55:10-11 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud
and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the
eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return
to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose
for which I sent it.
Ephesians 5:25-27 Christ loved the church and gave himself up
for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through
the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without
stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
Rev 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him
who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever
wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
Sunlight--
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for
my path.
2 Corinthians 4: 6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of
darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of
the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
Seeds that are cared for grow on their own and bear fruit
Mark 4:26-29 He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God
is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he
sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know
how. All by itself the soil produces grain--first the stalk, then the
head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe,
he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."
What do we know about strong plants? They withstand testing and bear
fruit
Psalm 1
- Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
- But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates
day and night.
- He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its
fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
- Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
- Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners
in the assembly of the righteous.
- For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way
of the wicked will perish.
How is the plant strengthened?
Colossians 2:6-7 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as
Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened
in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Joshua 1:8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth;
meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything
written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Prayer for Christ's strengthening
Ephesians 3:16-19 I pray that out of his glorious riches he
may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that
you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together
with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is
the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that
you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
